Unlike what some try to convince us, professional soccer in the U.S. did not start in 1996! This poster lists professional soccer leagues in the U.S. since the first professional league in 1894.
Note: What constitutes pro vs. semi-pro with historic leagues is a bit vague. I went with how the leagues referred to themselves and if there are notes of players getting any compensation for playing I considered them a pro league.
